SIGN PERMIT

A Sign Permit is required for new signage under Delta’s Sign Bylaw unless exempt (see list of exempt signs on the Sign Permit webpage).


If you’re unsure whether your sign requires a permit, contact the Application Centre at 604-946-3380 or Development@delta.ca before applying.


Step  1 – Review Requirements

Before starting your application:

  • Review Delta’s Sign Bylaw, including:
    1. Exempt Signs (Sections 4.1 & 7)
    2. Prohibited Signs (Section 4.2)
    3. Special sign areas (Schedules A - D)
  • Check the property title for any sign-related restrictions (look for Development Permits, Design Covenants, etc.)

 

Step 2 – Gather your Documents (PDF)

  • Owner Authorization Form (signed by all registered property owners)
  • Site plan
  • Building elevations
  • Detailed sign drawings (dimensions, sign area, copy area, illumination type, etc. – all dimensions in metric).
  • Cross-section showing anchorage/attachment details (sign thickness, wall construction, bolts/screws, foundation details for freestanding signs)

 

Optional:

  • Current Title Search (within 3 months) and copies of charges on title (Staff can obtain these for a fee)
  • Structural Engineer Schedule B and sealed drawings - required only for:
  1. Canopy signs
  2. Fascia signs over 68 kg (150 lbs)
  3. Freestanding signs over 2.5 m (8'-2")
  4. Signs near public utilities/accesses
  5. Large or complex signs (at Director’s discretion)
    These may be submitted after preliminary staff review

 

Note: All drawings shall be to scale with dimensions in metric.

 

Step 3 – Start your application

  • Have your documents ready to upload in PDF Format
  • The system times out after 15 minutes of inactivity; unsaved data will be lost
  • All fields marked *mandatory must be completed
